Transport
Newcastle is a fantastic city to get around. All accommodation for the Games is centrally located and sporting events are easy to get to as most are only minutes away from the CBD.
We encourage participants to use their own car at the Games. For those requiring transport during the Games, minibus transport to sporting venues and events will be available.
You can choose which games transport option suits you best when you register.
Closing Ceremony (Civic Theatre) and Closing Party (Merewether Surfhouse)
For those registered at Games Hotels and using Games Transport, transfers will be provided to the Closing Ceremony and from there to and from the Surhouse or straight back to Games Hotels.
Those that have selected to drive their own car to the Closing Ceremony and/or the Closing Party, should park at the nominated parking venue. Shuttle service will be provided from there to the Closing Ceremony and from there to and from the Closing Party. For those not attending the Closing Party, the shuttle will travel via the nominated car park. Please read the Transport Bulletin in the Games Bag for the parking location from which the shuttles will be operating.
Flying and transferring to accommodation
Book well in advance to secure the cheapest airfare. You can now fly direct to Newcastle from many Australian Capital cities. Transfers to and from Newcastle airport to accommodation venues is available only on the arrival day of Saturday 29th September and the departure day Sunday 7th October.
In some cases, where two flights arrive within a short period, you may have to wait for the arrival of the later flight. Please look for the Transplant Australia Transport Marshall for direction.
There are also Newcastle Aiport Shuttle coach transfers available for all flighst that will take you to within blocks of the Games Office.
We recommend you consider flying to and from Sydney as you will find more flight options and cheaper fares are available. Consider renting a car to drive to Newcastle from Sydney as it is an easy two hour drive or use the regular bus service from Sydney airport or Sydney's Central Station to Newcastle.
