Transport
Unlike its sister cities Canberra is known for its fantastic roads, roundabouts and a 15 minute peak hour. Not to mention an impressive 45 minute traverse across the entire city.
Conveniently located between two of our major cities we are encouraging people in reasonable driving distance to pack your car boot and road-trip. Bringing your own car will lower your transport costs at the Games, and you will receive a petrol voucher as an extra bonus. Fill in the booking form above. Car pooling is also a great way to save money.

You also have the opportunity to rent a car and we’ve arranged a special deal through Europ Car for your convenience.
Some of the cars available include:

As the majority of the venues are either at the AIS or in close proximity and the accommodation venues are only minutes away, your petrol costs will be minimal.
Buses provided
For those requiring transport during the Games, we will be providing minibus transport to sporting venues and events. Priority on all mini-buses will be given to those competing at the events and non-competitors may therefore have to travel on later buses.
Coaches will be taking everyone to the Opening Ceremony at Floriade as there will be no parking available. Coaches will be provided to take you to the Gala Dinner so you can really enjoy yourselves – of course you can drive your own car at any time if you like.
Flying and transferring to Accommodation
Book well in advance and get a good airfare if you’re flying to Canberra. Flights to and from Canberra are usually a little more expensive than the major cities, so we encourage you to keep your eyes peeled for promotional deals.
Transfers from the airport to the AIS and other accommodation venues will be available. Because we have mini-buses, transfers are flexible.
Choosing your options
You can choose which transport option best suits you when you register. For those who decide to drive themselves to and from Canberra, there will also be the opportunity to purchase a number of transport options, such as hop-on: hop-off bus ticket to go from venue to venue, and transport to all major events.
