- Australia vs Great Britain
The Story So Far
The Australian Transplant Cricket Club created the David Hookes Memorial Shield to highlight the importance of organ and tissue donation. The inaugural event was held between the Great Britain Transplant Cricket Club (GBTCC) and members of Transplant Australia (TA) in 2004.
Those teams competed in Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval Number 2 and in Sydney for the David Hookes Memorial Shield. The series comprised of 2 "Test" matches and 2 one-day games, which were played in a competitive yet sporting manner, with the Transplant Australia team emerging victorious.
As a result of the success of that series and in order to build on the public perception of the need and benefits associated with organ and tissue donation and transplantation, the Great Britain Transplant Cricket Club issued an invitation for an Australian team to tour and play a cricket series in England during July/August 2006. The Australian Transplant Cricket Club accepted the invitation to defend the shield and tour England. On this occasion the home team was victorious.
The 2008 Series
The 2008 David Hookes Memorial Shield series will coincide for the first with the Australian Transplant Games. It has been proposed that the first two-day "Test" match and first One Day International be held in Perth during the Transplant Games. The second One Day International is to be held on completion of the Games in Perth.
The series will then be completed on the East Coast where the third one-day match and the 2nd Test match will be played. The 3rd One Day International to take place on Monday October 13, 2008 on Bowral's Bradman Oval. This is a very special time to be in Bowral as the town will be celebrating the centenary of The Don's birth.
Both teams will then return to Sydney where the Second (2 day) Test match will be played on October 15 and 16. The series will then come to a close with a gala dinner where Mrs Robyn Hookes will present the David Hookes Memorial Shield to the winning side.
